Home Automation-Digital Week

Posted by admin in Uncategorized On July 8, 2015

Home automation is the residential extension of building automation. It is automation of the home, housework or household activity.

The way that all of our devices and appliances will be networked together to provide us with a seamless control over all aspects of our home and more. Home automation has been around from many decades in terms of lighting and simple appliance control, and only recently has technology caught up for the idea of the interconnected world, allowing full control of your home from anywhere, to become a reality. With home automation, you dictate how a device should react, when it should react, and why it should react. You set the schedule and the rest is automated and based off of your personal preferences thus providing convenience, control, money savings, and an overall smarter home.

Home automation can also alert you to events that you might want to know about right-away while you are gone like water leaks and unexpected access to your home, or any part of it. At any time, you can grab your iPhone, Android device or other remote control and change the settings in your house as desired. You can control several things in your home like the lighting , security systems and access control , etc .

The term “smart grid” refers to the idea of a completely connected power delivery system that not only delivers power from providers to consumers, but that is also capable of incorporating large amounts of data to make this process more efficient.

The involvement of smart grid in home and building automation systems has led to the development of diverse standards for interoperable products to control appliances, lighting, energy management and security. Smart grid enables a user to control the energy usage according to the price and demand.

These standards have been developed in parallel by different organizations, which are either open or proprietary. It is necessary to arrange these standards in such a way that it is easier for potential readers to easily understand and select a suitable standard according to their functionalities without going into the depth of each standard.

Tying these two concepts together will certainly strengthen home automation solutions with even more advanced energy management capabilities, but may also help consumers to see the practical benefits of transitioning to smart meters.
